IN A WORLD OF ELITE COMPETITORS, MENTAL SKILLS TRAINING PROVIDES THE EDGE ATHLETES NEED TO COMPETE LIKE A CHAMPION, ON AND OFF THE PLAYING FIELD.

WHY IS MENTAL TRAINING SO IMPORTANT FOR ATHLETES OF ALL LEVELS?

An athlete’s mental skills and internal processes powerfully impact their performance emotions, behaviors, and external outcomes. Mental performance training is strength and conditioning for the mind that optimizes athlete well-being and performance. Mental performance training equips athletes with the mental skills they need to conquer the mental barriers that hinder them from consistently performing at their highest level.

The ability to stay poised under pressure, manage thoughts and emotions, maintain consistent confidence, hone laser focus, get in “the zone” and quickly bounce back from setbacks are all mental skills that enable an athlete to maximize performance and fulfill their potential.

Without a system for training your mental skills, you'll always feel like you're never achieving your potential during the high-pressure moments where it counts the most.

BECOMING A DOMINANT FORCE IN SPORT STARTS WITH DEVELOPING AN ELITE MINDSET. BEING THE BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER ATHLETE IS NO LONGER ENOUGH.

BECOME A COMPLETE COMPETITOR

There are only 3 things that an athlete can train in the pursuit of actualizing their potential: their body, their craft and their mind.  However, an overwhelming majority of aspiring elite athletes are only training 2 out of their 3 competitive assets.  We’ve seen it time and time again – athletes who train their body and craft to ridiculously high levels, but without training the mind, they suddenly become exposed when the pressure is on.  Elite athletes know how to accept and embrace the demands of their sport because they consistently train their mind with their body and their craft.

Here at SSTARS, training the mind isn’t “extra work”, it’s a normal part of our strength and conditioning process for complete athlete development because the goal is for our athletes to build full trust in their ability to succeed (self-efficacy) so they can actualize their potential on and off the playing field.  Our system for developing complete competitors is founded upon our Mental Performance Pillars (MPP): Insight, Mindfulness, Mental Skills and Flow.

HOW IT WORKS

Our Mental Performance Pillars (MPP) is a framework that we use to help our athletes:

  • Insight: Identify who they are, what they value and what’s holding them back from consistently training and performing at their highest level

  • Mindfulness: Cultivate mindfulness as a way of being to strengthen awareness, present moment focus, acceptance and resilience in order to skillfully embrace and conquer the demands of sports and life

  • Mental Skills: Build a growth mindset, set meaningful goals and establish habits that are aligned with their core values, personal identity and personal vision

  • Flow: Access flow (“get in the zone”) on purpose to experience optimal performance more consistently
